→ Heimat im Umbau, 2020-2023

Heimat im Umbau, a community-based project at Galerie Bernau, later developed in collaboration with the Bildung – Begegnung – Zeitgeschehen Bernau, an institution for continuing education, 2021–2022.

The project began with the city’s official historical timeline published in the tourist center, which largely omitted key events from Bernau’s history during the Nazi period and the GDR.

For the exhibition, I developed an open system through which residents could submit their own memories, stories, and additions, creating a new timeline which moves and is affected by every contribution, gradually forming an alternative timeline that shifted and expanded with each new contribution. Based on these contributions, I worked with a local committee to produce a publication in the form of a collection of postcards that presents alternative perspectives on the city’s history.
